Event Planning

Event planning is an important part of your organization's role. By programming, you will learn transferable skills such as time management, budgeting, teamwork, and communication. Through solid programming, you can build your organization's reputation and solidify its membership. It will also enable your members to make a connection to the University.

Outside Chalking

The library steps are no longer permissible to use for chalking due to the restored textured material that was placed on the steps as part of a renovation.

UNC Asheville's official chalking policy:

Chalking is permitted on horizontal, non-covered cement surfaces only, such as sidewalks and walkways which are openly exposed to weather.  No buildings, structures, walls or brick surfaces may be chalked, including the Ramsey Library steps. All chalking must also be in accordance with the Student Code of Community Standards. Spaces cannot be reserved for a group or individual to chalk, thus it is the University’s expectation that those wishing to chalk an area be respectful of any chalking which may already be present. No chalking should be removed by one group to be replaced by another unless it is for a dated event which has already occurred. Groups/individuals that do not follow the above will have the chalking removed and may face disciplinary or other action.

Film Policy

You must purchase the rights for any film or TV show before publicly screening them. Films and TV shows that are rented, purchased, checked out from the library, or recorded at home are for home viewing purposes only. Viewing rights do not depend on audience size or cost of admission.

The only exception to this policy is if a professor screens a film or TV show in a classroom for educational purposes.

United States Code (Title 17, Section 202) states that it is a violation of Federal law to exhibit prerecorded discs beyond the scope of a family and it social acquaintances, regardless of whether admission is charged.

Community Service

10% of each student organization's members are required to complete ten hours of volunteer service by December 5, 2018. To report your hours, email the details (your organization, the name of the community partner, nature of work, date of service, number of hours per person, and list of all volunteers) to studentorgs@unca.edu.
